Education and Enrichment Options for Families

LMMNA Education and Enrichment Options for Families

Dear neighbors,

We have all shifted our way of life without preparation or notice. We have the gift of living in an interesting time!

Despite the challenges, it seems that Lindridge-Martin Manor is doing well! Parents are playing with their children. The dogs are walking, children riding bikes, neighbors giving greetings and good wishes. It is important to sustain the personality of our neighborhood.  I am thinking about how lucky I am to live here.

A challenge of sheltering in place is continuing to teach our children! It is hard, to continue doing your work while also trying your hand at being a teacher! We have many days to go, but there is a silver lining!

The generosity of companies selling computer-assisted programming is overwhelming! Hopefully, the selections below will help. These are a few well-established programs offered free-of-charge at this time.  Most allow parents to register.  If any request school information, please let me know at cathitrap@gmail.com.

Many of the museums, including The Children’s Museum, are offering Virtual Tours, so keep that in mind as a way of doing a family outing!  Please give me an idea about the programming you need here in our neighborhood and we’ll see what we can do together.

Be well, stay safe, wash your hands, and continue to take care of each other! We are a vibrant community, and we will get through this.  We may even thrive!

All the best,

Cathi Trapani

'Stay at Home' Roundup

Stay Informed, Remain Upbeat During ‘Stay at Home’ Period

The Lindridge-Martin Manor Neighborhood Association hopes to keep everyone informed of developments during the city’s official ‘Stay at Home’ order. But we’re not experts. Just your neighbors.

Please take steps to keep yourself informed of this evolving situation using these links to official sources of information. If developments occur that affect our neighborhood in particular, we’ll make efforts to communicate these.

Be sure to check this website, our social media channels, and your mailboxes to stay informed. If you need help with a delivery, or small chore, or grocery run, contact your neighbors at CommunityHelp@LMMNA.org. We’ll connect to see what we can do for you.

Till then: The City of Atlanta is sending COVID-19 text message updates directly to our phones. To sign up, you just text the words ATLCOVID19 or ATLSTRONG to 888777. For more information visit: https://atlstrong.org. Also, the State of Georgia has set up a COVID-19 hotline at (844) 442-2681.

Officials say that if you believe that you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to the novel coronavirus, first contact your primary care doctor, an urgent care clinic, or your local federally qualified healthcare center. Please do not show up unannounced at an emergency room or health care facility.

For other questions, comments, or information, reach out to LMMNA by sending an email to board@lmmna.org. And remember: Stay upbeat and positive! We have to help one another.

Update: City Moves to Phase II Reopening on Sept. 11

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Sept. 11 that Atlanta will transition to Phase II of the city’s Five Phase Reopening Plan. The transition to Phase II is effective immediately.

In July, the City moved back to Phase I in response to the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases in the state of Georgia. The Mayor’s reopening plan was drawn from the recommendations of the Mayor’s Advisory Council for Reopening Atlanta and public health experts.

The reopening phases are based on milestone metrics and recent data.

LMMNA Community Help Network Offers a Hand and Smile

Dear neighbors,

I hope this note finds everyone safe and healthy. This email does not contain any rules or guidelines for handling the COVID-19 crisis. We will leave that up to CDC and city for proper guidelines.

We are, however, reaching out to anyone who needs some assistance. We have a number of Lindridge-Martin Manor neighbors who may need a helping hand and we here at the neighborhood association are here to assist.

If you need help getting groceries, medicine, walking your pup, or maybe a warm dinner, just let us know. We have set up a new email account that will be distributed to a few of us on the board and from there we will send out the forces!

Send us a note to: CommunityHelp@LMMNA.org.

Not all neighbors are on our email distribution list, so if you know of someone who may need some help, either reach out and inquire or let us know - we will! Also, want to be a helper? Let us know that, too!

In times of crisis, neighbors come together and we are here. Be sure to come out and breath in some fresh air, soak in the sunshine, and talk with your neighbors.

Though we all want to practice social distance, we can still communicate from a few feet away or even just a wave from afar! We are here for you today, tomorrow and in the days ahead. This is what makes Lindridge-Martin Manor such an amazing community.

Sincerely, Kevin

Georgia Primary Moved to May 19

Election Officials Move March 24 Presidential Primary and Special Election to May 19

Georgia officials have postponed the March 24 Presidential Primary and Special Election and closed all early voting locations due to health and safety reasons.

The election has been re-scheduled for May 19, the original date of the Georgia Primary and Special Election. The current registration deadline is April 20.

Georgia election officials began mailing absentee ballot request forms Monday, March 30, to the state’s 6.9 million active voters, making it easier for them to vote without having to show up in person.

Voters who fill out and return the request forms will then be mailed a ballot for the May 19 primary, which includes candidates for president, Congress, the Georgia General Assembly and county offices.

The mass mailing of absentee ballot request forms is an effort by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to encourage remote voting during the coronavirus pandemic. Georgia voters will also have the option of voting in person on election day and during three weeks of early voting starting April 27. For specific details on this, please check with local news sources, as details are changing rapidly.

Georgians who have already cast their vote in person or by mail for the March 24 primary will be able to vote again in the May 19 primary for the elections already scheduled for that date.

If Georgians who have already cast their vote for the March 24 primary do not vote again in the May 19 primary, their votes for the presidential preference primary will still count.

Visit the Georgia Secretary of State website for al additional details, instructions, and questions.

Income Tax Deadlines Extended

Federal and State Income Tax Deadlines Moved to July

The U.S. Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service are providing special tax filing and payment relief to individuals and businesses in response to the COVID-19 Outbreak.

The filing deadline for federal tax returns has been extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020. The IRS urges taxpayers who are owed a refund to file as quickly as possible.

For those who can't file by the July 15, 2020 deadline, the IRS reminds individual taxpayers that everyone is eligible to request an extension to file their return.

In addition, the Georgia Department of Revenue is automatically extending the 2019 income tax filing and payment deadline to July 15, 2020.

Also, vehicle registrations that expire between March 16, 2020 and May 14, 2020 are being extended through May 15, 2020.
