New Trash Pickup Changes

City Changes Solid Waste Pickup Schedule
Recycling, Yard Waste move to Alternate Weeks

Dear Neighbor,

Officials with the City of Atlanta's Department of Public Works decided to make a change to our trash, recycling, and yard waste pickup schedule.

Here's what we know, plus an infographic to help:

  • Household trash pickup will continue every week as normal.

  • Starting Monday, February 15, recycling will be collected on alternating weeks. This will be the plan for the next 90 days at least.

  • Starting Monday, February 22, regular yard trimmings will only be collected on the first and third week of every month.

  • Remember to schedule bulk item pickup for large items, furniture, tree limbs, 20+ bags of yard trimmings, etc. Just call ATL311 or use the app, available for Apple and Android devices.

Future schedule changes “will be made based on the number of COVID-19 cases experienced by the Department of Public Works," which appears to be the cause of this change.

More details appear in the infographic below. Learn more and set a reminder for the new collection schedule at www.atlantaga.gov/solidwaste, or call ATL311 at 404-546-0311.

MARTA Track Closures in February 2021

Plan for Delays on Feb. 16-22

The LMMNA board received this notice Jan. 21 about an upcoming track closure for Buckhead, Lenox, and Lindbergh Center stations:

Next month, MARTA will continue its Track Replacement Phase IV (TR-IV) program with a major effort that will temporarily suspend rail service between Buckhead, Lenox, and Lindbergh Center stations and create significant service delays for some customers. Beginning February 16 at 9 p.m., through February 22 at 4 a.m., MARTA’s rail customers traveling through the affected stations will experience up to 30-minute service delays due to the track replacement effort.

To maintain connectivity, MARTA customers will be provided a convenient option to continue their trip at no additional cost during general service hours with continuous bus shuttle service from Buckhead, Lenox, and Lindbergh Center rail stations. Two virtual public meetings have also been scheduled to allow customers an opportunity to learn more about the TR-IV program, obtain details on the upcoming impacts, and have questions answered by MARTA officials.

Pet Care Tips for Winter

Peachtree Creek Animal Hospital Shares Cold Weather Advice

Contributed by Jonathan Kahn, DVM
Peachtree Creek Animal Hospital

This time of year I will catch an occasional question about what temperatures pets can safely tolerate.

Just like us, pets in Georgia are not used to cold weather. If they are exposed to temperatures below
freezing for excessive periods they can be subject to frostbite and hypothermia.

Be aware of your pet's tolerance for cold weather, and adjust your amount of outdoor activity. Below 32 degrees small dogs, dogs with thin coats, puppies, geriatric pets, and pets with endocrine disorders should not be outdoors for long periods of time.

Below about 20 degrees and even thick-coated breeds like Huskies should be monitored for cold related issues. Long-haired or thick-coated dogs are more cold-tolerant, but are still at risk in cold weather. Shivering and whining are the best indicators that your pet is ready to go back inside!

Owners whose pets have arthritis will likely see that condition exacerbated by the cold and should consider adjusting their medication dosing schedule.

Finally, even though we get the occasional cold snap we do frequently see winter days of 60 degrees plus so make sure to keep our pet on heartworm, flea and tick medication year-round!

Contact our LMMNA neighborhood sponsor, Dr. Kahn, for a tour of his vet clinic anytime! Call 404-46PUPPY (467-8779) or stop by and meet him in person at 1085 Lindbergh Drive NE, Suite 100.
